The Blockchain Innovation Centre (BIC), as part of the GSX Group, was started to help create and support an industry workforce in Gibraltar for the new digital era. Working in partnerships to help execute Gibraltar’s vision of facilitating breakthroughs within the global blockchain community.
Appointment of Denise Matthews
The BIC is pleased to announce the appointment of Denise Matthews as the new Operations Manager of the BIC here in Gibraltar. As a committed entrepreneur, Denise has over 20 years experience in PR, Marketing, events and business development, with a passion for corporate branding and a focus on startups. After becoming involved in Startup Grind in March 2017, Denise successfully applied and became the Gibraltar Chapter Director, helping strengthen the startup & block-chain community on the Rock.
Denise commented on the appointment by saying:
“I am excited to be a part of this new opportunity and help Gibraltar grow as a fintech hub in both Europe and globally. I will work on building relationships with blockchain startups in the community, creating activities to help educate, inspire and connect those who wish to learn more about the fascinating technological advancements in this growing industry.”
A perfect fit with the ethics and vision of the BIC, Denise will help execute that vision within Gibraltar and act as a sterling example of what can be achieved when partnerships connect and inspire the community to develop and progress within the block-chain space.
As with any new and emerging industry, the BIC recognises that there is a shortfall in the global pool of talent within the blockchain space. The work Gibraltar has done to position itself as a global fintech hub and natural home for this innovative space needs the support from local firms and communities to truly reach its potential.
The BIC will help in this endeavour by bridging the gap between the demand and supply of viable expertise in Gibraltar. The goal is to become a catalyst for technology and block-chain education programmes, offering developer and non-developer based re-education spanning the age divide as well as creating a real community within the block-chain space here on the Rock.
Part of this development started with our partnership with Startup Grind, bringing together the community to establish a foundation through the delivery of events. These events aim to bring together inspiring thought leaders and experts in the blockchain industry from across the world.
The sharing of the knowledge and experience gained by the community is vital to the success of the industry and nurturing the growth of expertise in Gibraltar.
Startup Grind events bring together some of the most reputable thought leaders, founders and innovators to their conferences. Startup Grind in Gibraltar is part of a global community that seeks to train and connect budding entrepreneurs, powered by Google for Entrepreneurs. Their events range from monthly meetups in over 150 cities with Startup Grind chapters in 100 countries, as well as hosting larger international industry-wide conferences.
